- Professional Digital Audio Test Equipment –

The CTD-8 makes it possible for one person to setup or verify all the AES/EBU digital audio channels in his facility – easily, quickly, and accurately. The unit produces a hands-free audible and visual sequential voice ID for each channel, eliminating the need for external generators or extra personnel to switch between sources. In addition to the voice ID’s, the CTD-8 includes AUX channel tones allowing both narrow and wide band frequency response testing, and for spectrum analyzers, a pink noise generator is included.  Finally, there is a modified sine wave output that can be monitored at the audio system output to verify that there has not been an audio phase reversal in the system. Audio phasing or polarity can be verified either visually (oscilloscope or hand-held video scope) or with an approved polarity detector (CL-1 Channel Listener).

Channel Talker Specifications:

8 Tone Channels: Digitally generated, exactly -20dBFS (or -18dBFS), 1000 Hz tone with sequential voice markers on all 8 channels (four digital streams), 19-Bit resolution, and 24-bit compatible. Outputs are AES/EBU compatible (75 Ohm BNC).

AUX Channels: Two Digital stream outputs with 4 selectable tones: Step-6, Step-12, Pink Noise, and Polarity. Identical information is on both channels. Output is AES/EBU compatible (75 Ohm BNC).

Step-6: Six stepped tones: 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000Hz. Duration 500ms each continuously repeating. Output level exactly -20 dBFS with 19-bit resolution and 24-bit compatible.

Step-12: Twelve stepped tones: 12.5, 25, 50, 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 12000, and 17000Hz. Duration 500ms each continuously repeating. Output level is exactly  -20 dBFS with 19-bit resolution and 24-bit compatible.

PINK Noise: Digitally generated pink noise sequence. Output level is -20 dBFS average, 16-bit resolution, and 24-bit compatible. Repeat rate 1.365 sec.

Polarity: 600Hz, exactly -20dBFS, digitally generated tone modified so that the negative half of every fourth sine wave is truncated to -50% for identification.

DAR Output: Four Digital Audio Reference outputs (DAR). Audio output Left and Right = 0.00 volts (minus infinity db – dead silence). Class 1 reference signal.

DAR/Color Black Input: Locks to either external DAR reference 48Khz data stream or house Black analog video stream.

Voice ID: Sequential voice ID overlay on 8 channels for ease of identification. Recorded, easy to understand, voice. Unit is pre-programmed with generic sequencing phrases (“Channel One”, “Channel Two”, etc.). Recording can be changed to to accommodate  language or message variations.

Station ID: Any message up to 16 seconds long can be stored to aid in the identification of the source material. Message plays on all channels before announcing channel one ID.

AES/EBU Stereo digital outputs: All digital serial outputs are greater than 1.0VP-P into 75 Ohms. BNC connectors. All tones and data streams are in phase.

Input Voltage: 6VDC to 14VDC (9VDC nominal) . Connector 2.1mm X 5.5mm X 11mm (inside x outside x Length). Unit is compatible with automobile battery voltage (13.2VDC).

Input Current: 100ma Maximum.

Input Power Supply: Two 110-220VAC to 9VDC @ 660ma  green Supplies are redundant and unit will work with one.

Temperature:: 0 C to 50 C (32 F to 125 F) non-condensing.

Warranty: 90 days to cover normal operation, defects in materials, and workmanship.

Size L X W X H:  207mm x 178mm x 43mm (8.15in x 7.0in x 1.7in). 1U high 1/2 Rack compatible. 170mm x 140mm x 43mm (6.75in x 5.5in x 1.7in). 1U Rack compatible with adapter kit.

Voice ID Phrase Download Software (Optional):

Channel Talker Voice overlay channel ID and Station ID  are modified wave files. The Channel ID file can be custom programmed, providing the overlay information can fit in either 0.5 sec or 1.0 sec segments. The Station ID file can be any message from 0 to 16 seconds. Voice ID information is downloaded to non-volatile FLASH memory. Both messages are stored at 8K samples/sec.

Change the message as often as needed. 10,000 write cycles typical.

Voice ID Download Software Specifications:

Software requires Windows7, XP, 2000 or later. 333 MHZ processor, 128MB RAM, 25M Bytes of Disk space, 800x600 monitor or larger, and mouse.
