    Notes:

    For his service against the Narragansett Indians he received a grant of land in Bedford.

    He served the town as selectman in the years 1713, 1715, 1716, 1723, and 1724. as moderator of town meetings in 1714, 1715, 1721, 1722, 1723, 1725, 1726, 1732, and 1737. He also held minor offices and served on numerous town and church committees.

    In town records he appears as Sergeant in 1691, Ensign in 1706, and Lieutenant from 1708 until his death.

    Henry married Elizabeth Babcock / Badcock 18 May 1686. Elizabeth was born 24 Dec 1666, Dorchester, Suffolk, MA; was christened 19 May 1667, Milton, Norfolk, MA; died 18 Oct 1732, Milton, Norfolk, MA; was buried Milton Cemetery, Milton, Norfolk, MA. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    The marriage of Henry Vose and Elizabeth Badcock was probably the first one perfdormed by a clergyman in New England. Judge Sewall of Boston, in his Diary thus describes the event: "1686, Tuesday, May 18. A great wedding from Milton, and are married by Mr. Randolph's chaplain (Rev. Ratcliffe who had arrived in Boston on May 13, 1686 from England, the first minister of the English church commissioned to officiate on New England soil. Previous to this, all marriages had been performed by magistrates or some person especially appointed for the purpose. On May 29, 1686 Joseph Dudley, President, issued a proclamation authorizing the clerical function.) at mr. Shrimpton's, according to ye Service Book, a little after noon, when Prayer was had at ye Town House: Was another married at ye same time; the former was Vose's son. Borrowed a ring.
